Paraphrase

Source Text-The circular winds produce circular ocean currents that spiral into a center where there is a slight down-welling. Scientists know this atmospheric phenomenon as the subtropical high, and the ocean current it creates as the north Pacific central or sub-tropical gyre.

Paraphrase- Around and around, as the ocean currents spiral into a circular motion as if a hurricane was forming, with everything flowing to the center of the gyre. Experts refer to this as The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Source Text- Consisting largely of partially decomposed consumer waste such as plastic bags, bottles, fast-food wrappers and toys, the rubbish moves as a single entity because of the presence of the North Pacific Gyre. This slowly rotating vortex draws in flotsam and jetsam, 80 per cent of which is believed to have originated from land, circulating it for decades and causing major problems for marine life.

Paraphrase- A large amount of the waste that is trapped within the gyre is made up of a lot of decomposed items that we may use in our day to day activities. The slow forming hurricane like gyre moves as a whole while the currents of the ocean push it in the circular motion. As the gyre rotates, it continually traps in object that are held in the gyre for what can be decades which is cause severe harm to our marine life animals.
